Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease)
July 17, 2009 - The young and talented ranchero artist, Beatriz Corral, will be coming back to Fiesta del Sol—one of the marking events of her career in 2008. “The welcoming that I received from the people in Fiesta del Sol in Chicago last year….was unforgettable,” a witty and excited Corral responded. “I really appreciated everyone’s warm applause…there was a lot of pride in the Festival.”
Corral believes that Fiesta del Sol helped in open the doors for her and boosted her career. “Fiesta del Sol in Chicago was one of the biggest crowds I ever performed in front of, if not the biggest,” said the enthusiastic 21-year-old from San Diego. “It really helped me grow as an artist and it gave me a lot perspective.” “A radio station in Chicago even offered to put my music out there.”
Corral had previously attended Fiesta del Sol in San Diego and was connected to the Festival in Chicago through them. This year will be Corral’s 2nd performance at Fiesta del Sol in Chicago. Following her appearance last year, Corral performed at Festival Viva el Mariachi, where she opened for Vikki Car and Mariachi los Camperos de Nati Cano. Corral also performed at the KPBS Hispanic Heritage Awards, a celebration that acknowledges people for their commitment and contribution to San Diego’s Latino community.
“Fiesta del Sol is just such a great way to bring people together and celebrate Latino culture.” When asked what her favorite thing about Fiesta del Sol was, Corral answered, “scholarships.” The presence of Dolores Huerta at Fiesta del Sol in San Diego was also very important for her too. “Bringing such big figures…just shows the public that no matter what race you are, you can do it.”
Corral has performed in front of different audiences in Mexico and the United States. Some of her idols include Pedro Infante, Lola Beltran as well as several other artists in the ranchero genre. Dubbed as, “La Voz de Durango,” Corral resides in San Diego California and her parents are originally from Durango, Mexico. Corral was introduced to music at the age of thirteen and has since then released her first album titled “La Voz de Durango.”
A key matter for Corral is taking pride in one’s culture and for her the way to do it is through music. “Music allows you to express what you feel, and where you come from, to the world.”
