April 17, 2008 - Earth Day 2008 is Tuesday, April 22nd. To celebrate and honor our planet Dancer’s Edge Inc. in Winter Park is putting on several Earth Day shows this month. The first two shows are Friday, April 18th at 7:45 p.m. and Saturday, April 19th at 1 p.m. Two more shows will be held the following weekend - Friday April 25th at 7:45 p.m. and Saturday April 26th at 1 p.m. All shows will be held at the Dancer’s Edge studio located at 7351 Aloma Avenue in Winter Park.
“We feel it’s very important to make people aware of their environment and what they can do to protect it,” says Jamie Rodriguez, owner and Artistic Director at Dancer’s Edge. “We’re using Earth Day and the art of dance to show the beauty of our planet and bring attention to the fact we need to take better care of it.”
The Earth Day shows feature modern and contemporary dance preformed by some very talented young performers, from ages 5 to 17, along with some of their adult instructors. The unique dance show celebrates our planet through the eyes of a bird. The bird’s travels will allow the audience to experience the harshness of oil spills and pollution, the fury of storms, and the struggle of survival between humans and animals.
“The shows use the beauty of dance to show some of the ugliness our planet faces,” states Rodriguez. “These kids have worked extremely hard to put together a stunning performance while still getting a very important message across to the audience.”
The public is invited to attend all four Earth Day shows. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Proceeds will go towards the building of a new stage at Dancer’s Edge, Inc. Once completed, this stage will allow students to perform many more shows throughout the year.
The media is also welcome to attend and tape any of the performances. For more information or to set up an interview contact Jamie Rodriguez at 407-679-8118 or email her at jrodriguez ( @ ) dancersedgeinc dot com.
