Seattle-Bellevue-Everett, WA (1888PressRelease)
April 04, 2008 - Woodinville, April is Autism Awareness Month. Autism Spectrum Disorders primarily affecting language, communication and social interaction. While some are mildly affected, many others suffer debilitating disabilities including mental retardation or violent outbursts. In the current climate, many of these children will require lifelong care.
There is no known cause or cure, though effective treatments do exist. However, even basic therapies are out of reach for most families as they are not covered by insurance, if they are covered at all, or past age seven.
In recognition of Autism Awareness Month and in support of families living with autism, World Wide Gourmet Food (www.alaskasmokehouse.com), home of Alaska Smokehouse®, The Famous Pacific Dessert Company, Sleepless in Seattle Coffee® and Smokehouse Soups and Spices, is donating $5 from any gift basket purchased in the month of April to the Autism Spectrum Treatment and Research (ASTAR) Center (www.astarcenter.org). In teaming up with the ASTAR Center, World Wide Gourmet Food will strengthen the education, support, and research of Autism in America.
World Wide Gourmet Food and the ASTAR Center hope to raise $10,000 towards direct services for children through gift basket purchases from www.alaskasmokehouse.com.
