World-Renowned Pianist Opus Chamber Music Society of Detroit's Opus 3 Piano Series

Russian-born pianist Vladimir Feltsman will perform works by Schubert and Chopin when he opens the Opus 3 Piano Series for the Chamber Music Society of Detroit.

Detroit, MI (1888PressRelease) October 21, 2009 - Unique Features of this Concert/Story Line:

• Returning to the Chamber Music Society of Detroit series by popular demand following his extraordinary debut performance on the series in March of 2008, Valdimir Feltsman’s recital opens the Chamber Music Society’s 2009-2010 Opus 3 Piano Series.

• Dramatic life story: Born in Moscow, Vladimir Feltsman was one of Russia’s premier pianists until 1979 when, because of his discontent with the restrictions on artistic freedom under the Soviet regime and his subsequent decision to emigrate, Mr. Feltsman was banned from performing in public for several years.

Upon his arrival in the United States in 1987, Mr. Feltsman performed his first recital in North America at the White House. That same year, his debut at Carnegie Hall established him as a major pianist on the American and international scene. In 2009-2010, Mr. Feltsman returns to his native Moscow to conduct the Moscow Virtuosi Orchestra and to St. Petersburg, performing with Valery Gergiev and the Kirov Orchestra.

• Chamber Music Society of Detroit will marks its 10th Anniversary of presenting its concert series at Seligman Performing Arts Center with a special presentation on stage.
