World Discovery Box, LLC announced today that it is aligning its Discovery Box™ Science Learning Station with the National Science Education Standards developed by the National Academy of Sciences. The Discovery Box is a small, wooden chest of drawers filled with a collection of natural specimens including fossils, marine life, minerals and insects. The collection of natural specimens included with the Discovery Box provides the opportunity for a hands-on, interactive approach for achieving the education standards in life science and earth science. The Discovery Box collection can be adapted for the science content standards for grades K-4, 5-8 and 9-12 and support many life science and earth science topics studied in school. For example, the trilobite fossils and the mountain stag beetle specimen included in the collection can demonstrate life science lessons such as the differences in living and non-living organisms, evolution and extinction, as well as the structure of organisms. Furthermore, the trilobite along with the petrified wood and obsidian specimens can demonstrate Earth science lessons such as the Earth’s various materials and sedimentary layers, evidence of past life and changes in the Earth’s structure.
