"When Memphis Sound Entertainment and The Memphis Sound band are chosen to produce and perform at such an outstanding event as this, we feel it imperative to utilize our talents and resources to promote the event for our clients," Degan states. "Other artists and agencies book the show and then you never hear from them again - except when it's time for the check! We don't do things that way. We choose our causes carefully and feel it is our duty as a partner to promote the event and raise awareness wherever we can, including supporting our partners. In this case our partners are Valero refining, FedEx, and, of course, Special Kids." To that end, Degan is making numerous personal appearances on television, radio, and providing access for numerous press interviews. "Memphis bands, Memphis Music, and Memphis Entertainment in general needs to learn to be more of a socio-economic partner for these charities and sponsors" he continues, "rather than just having their hands out all of the time like a poor street-person. You just can't take all of the time."
Degan and his entities have certainly put their money where their mouth is in that respect. He produces, performs, and donates more services to charitable causes than any other Memphis production company or Memphis band. Special recognition awards have been bestowed upon Memphis Sound Entertainment for nearly two decades of service from over 20 memphis charities, including such national non-profits as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Buddy Walk, Bronzes Of The Brave, and the Heart Walk, just to name a few. Degan's firm was also presented with Porter-Leath Children's Community Service Award in 2005, which he says was "our finest moment. The previous winners of that award were FedEx and International Paper. For us to be included in that company was very humbling. Our company slogan is 'Giving Back.' It is nice to be appreciated." |
