Young art students from the Franklin, MA Cornerstone Christian Academy made a field trip to Boston Metro West’s Woodshed Gallery a few days before Halloween. The students were given the rare opportunity to learn from contemporary Impressionist painter Bruce Wood who is visiting from Chicago.

Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) November 06, 2009 - The Woodshed Picture Framing and Art Gallery in Franklin, Massachusetts hosted a group of young art students from Franklin’s Cornerstone Christian Academy. The students ranged in age from about eight to thirteen years old, and were brought to the gallery by art instructor John Barry. They came to see watercolor paintings by the late resident artist Angelina Wood, who specialized in painting local scenes. Their visit was shortly before Halloween, and they were preparing to paint winter landscapes with birch trees.

The presentation was started by Angelina’s daughter Mary-Ann Wood, who now operates the gallery. She explained to the students, most of whom had never been in a commercial art gallery, how galleries operate, and the different kinds of galleries in the Boston area.

The current exhibition at the Woodshed Gallery is a selection of watercolor paintings by Angelina Wood and acrylic paintings by her son Bruce Wood, who is a professional artist visiting from Chicago. Mr. Wood was on hand to talk to the students about what it is like to be a full-time artist, and he also explained several techniques which were used in creating the paintings on exhibition.

After the presentation, Mr. Barry instructed the students in how to make a preliminary pencil sketch on watercolor paper, using one of Angelina Wood’s winter birch tree paintings as a reference.

The Woodshed Gallery specializes in conservation picture framing and the exhibition of original fine art. The gallery was founded by the late artist Angelina Wood in 1968, and continues to be a family-run business. For the past forty-one years, exhibitions have centered on the paintings of Angelina and her son Bruce Wood, with additional presentations by local art organizations, students, and professional illustrators and painters.

The Woodshed Gallery is located at 1243 Pond Street in Franklin, MA, between Route 140 and Route 109 near the Medway Line. The phone number is 1-508-533-6277 and the web site is http://www.WoodshedGallery.com
