  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) October 07, 2015 - Shweta Joshi, a Master of Architecture student at Woodbury University's School of Architecture, has been honored with the Student Citation Award from the Pasadena & Foothill chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

Pasadena-area winners and outstanding area projects were announced at the Annual Pasadena & Foothill AIA Design Awards gala held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Sept. 24. Sponsored by the Pasadena & Foothill AIA, and attended by leading architects, design firms and architecture students, the annual awards celebrate design excellence and innovation as well as provide a forum for architects to be recognized by their peers for their effort, talent and professional dedication.

Joshi's work, "Creating a Fragile Forest of Light," imagines a school building that incorporated living spaces in a highly-stylized yet delicate environment. "The energy and talent this project represents is very positive," the jurors noted. The jury panel consisted of: Mark Cavagnero, FAIA (Mark Cavagnero Associates); Richard Holbrook (International Furniture Designer); Coulter Winn, AIA (Walt Disney Imagineering); Kate Diamond, FAIA (HDR Pasadena); and Armando Gonzalez, FAIA (Gonzales/Goodale Architects Pasadena).

"These awards aim to raise public consciousness and foster a wider appreciation for excellence in design by highlighting the significant role of the architect in the community, said John Luttrell, AIA who was part of the Awards Committee. "Each year, our entries represent some of the most notable work done by architects in the Southern California area."

"Shweta's project explores the potential to innovate within a highly defined building envelope in a dense urban condition," said Norman Millar, AIA, Dean of the School of Architecture. "Her design, which is as inspired as it is thoughtful, operates between extremes public and private. Her project maintains a clear identity while filtering its environment. It truly is a tour de force."
