  • (1888PressRelease) December 11, 2010 - Wockhardt Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation has been actively pursuing several projects aimed at improving the quality of life of the socio economically under-privileged strata of the society, such as providing mobile health services, and related activities. The Foundation has also been committed to spreading time-tested human values through appropriate educational packages directed at students at various levels.

ONGC a state run company that ranks 3rd in Oil & Gas Exploration & Production (E&P) and 23rd among leading global energy majors, have joined hands with the Khel Khel Mein programme (KKM), a Wockhardt Foundation initiative that blends both the above objectives admirably. It started off as a toy library for children in slum areas of the city but is now rapidly evolving into a value-based educational service for these children through an imaginative blend of access to toys and interactive learning of human values.

Ms. Samina Khorakiwala, Chief of the Khel Khel Mein Programme said on the occasion, "The Khel Khel Mein centres are equipped with toys that are simple to play with and yet at the same time stimulate the brain power of the children, with the help of trained teachers who are multifaceted in their own way. In addition to helping with toys, these teachers also read stories, engage the children in challenging and competitive activities and yet foster a sense of friendship and harmonious living. Khel Khel Mein in short, is a movement aimed at value-based character building for the young citizens of our country which is seamlessly carried forward in the form of value based living courses as they move along in life. We thank ONGC for their support in helping us create a happier childhood for these underprivileged children."

Khel Khel Mein centres have already been operational in multiple locations of the city, either directly operated by Wockhardt Foundation or through collaborative efforts with other organizations. The latest one at Bharat Nagar is a joint venture of Wockhardt Foundation and ONGC. Plans are afoot to accelerate this project in the months ahead.
