June 09, 2009 - V-Flyer.com, a passenger-created website, today announced the winners of its annual awards for outstanding service.
The awards, which were first presented in 2005, recognise excellent facilities and staff from Virgin-branded travel companies around the world including Virgin Atlantic, Virgin America, Virgin Blue, Virgin Nigeria and Virgin Holidays.
Overall winner in the Best Lounge category was the Virgin Clubhouse at London Heathrow, which has won every year since its multi-million pound refurbishment in 2006. Passengers commented that the Heathrow Clubhouse was “simply the best by any airline, in any country or geography”, and that it “makes you excited about going away”. Runner-up in the Best Lounge category was the unique V-ROOM from Virgin Holidays; the first airport lounge dedicated to customers of a package holiday company, and particularly friendly to families with kids.
The category Best Airport Team serves to salute the groundstaff that can turn the confusion (or monotony, depending on how frequently you fly) of the airport terminal into a pleasure worth looking forward to. For the first time in the five-year history of the awards, the vote was split with two winners; the Virgin Atlantic staff at Orlando International Airport, and the Virgin America team in San Francisco – the new American domestic carrier making an appearance in the winning line-up for the first time this year. Runner-up in this category was the team at London Heathrow.
The final award, V-Flyer Hero, singles out the individual that provides customer service above-and-beyond the call of duty, and this year the hugely popular winner was named as Claire Nissim, who runs the front desk of the San Francisco Virgin Clubhouse with the widest of smiles. According to one of her nominators, “Virgin should clone her and send her to all their airports”.
