Whole Foods Market, in conjunction with EM America, EMRO USA Effective Microorganisms, EM Research Organization, and EM Technology Network, is sponsoring a seminar to examine the benefits of Effective Microorganisms™ for air, water, soil, and health on Sunday April 1st, 2007 fr om 2-5pm at the Glendale Civic Auditorium in Glendale, California.

(1888PressRelease) February 19, 2007 - This public event is free. Parking will cost $6. Whole Foods Market will be supplying complimentary refreshments during the event. Lecturers from around the world, including the developer of the Effective Microorganisms Technology™, Dr. Teruo Higa, will be coming to present on practical solutions to today’s environmental problems.

Since 1982, the use of Effective Microorganisms™ (EM•1®) has spread to over 100 countries. Today, Effective Microorganisms™ is used in sustainable agriculture, environmental cleanup, waste management, and for producing various dietary supplements. Recently, Effective Microorganisms™ received international recognition when it was used throughout Southeast Asia in the tsunami aftermath to control odors and prevent the spread of disease.

A summary of the lectures follows. A video introduction covering the Japanese national project for the cleanup of the Seto Inland Sea will be presented at the beginning of the event.

Program:
Effective Microorganisms™: Creating Holistic Pathways Toward Healthy Lifestyles Dr. Higa is a Professor of Horticulture at the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, Japan. He is the author of the best-selling books “An Earth Saving Revolution”, Volumes I & II. These books chronicle his discovery of the Effective Microorganisms™ products and his development of the Effective Microorganisms Technology™.

In this lecture, Dr. Higa will discuss what Effective Microorganisms™ is and how we can use this technology in our everyday lives. Controlling Odors In Livestock Operations & Organic Farming With Effective Microorganisms™ Dr. Sangakkara is a Senior Professor of Crop Science at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and has been researching the practical applications and benefits of EM•1® for over 15 years.

In this lecture, Dr. Sangakkara will discuss improving air quality and management of wastes in and around livestock operations. He will also describe how organic farming with Effective Microorganisms™ results in building healthy soils that resist erosion and prevent contamination from nutrient run-off, protecting both surface water and groundwater.

Bio-Conversion With Effective Microorganisms™: From Wastes To Resources Dr. Tabora is a Professor of Tropical Crop Production at EARTH University in Costa Rica. Dr. Tabora has been researching the applications of EM•1® in sustainable agriculture for over 10 years. He was also instrumental in coordinating the distribution of sustainably-grown bananas from EARTH University through Whole Foods Markets in the Eastern United States.

In this lecture, Dr. Tabora will compare conventional banana production to sustainable banana production with EM•1®. Replacing several synthetic chemicals in the conventional process with EM•1® has reduced the negative environmental impact of this huge industry. EM•1® easily converts wastes into resources (fertilizers), making zero waste goals obtainable. The process is simple and can be done on a small-scale with household wastes.

Organic Turf Management Made Possible With EM•1® And Composting With EM•1®. Jeremy Murdock is the Vice President of EM America, President of K&M Remediation, and a California Certified Organic Farm Inspector. Mr. Murdock has been involved in several research projects with Effective Microorganisms™ since 1996. His areas of expertise include agriculture, wastewater treatment, turf management, air quality, and composting.

In this lecture, the use of EM•1® on turf for maintaining disease-free healthy lawns and/or golf courses will be described, including basic application rates and methods. Video clips will illustrate the success of an EM•1® program on a PGA level golf course.

Additionally, the use of EM•1® for commercial and residential composting will be discussed emphasizing reduced management time and cost. A video will illustrate the success of a commercial composting operation and review of basic compost data will help quantify the benefits of EM•1® composting.

Cut Flower And Potted Plant Care With EM•1® And EM-X® Ceramics, Backyard Gardening With EM•1® And EM•1® Bokashi. Glen Pape is a Partner of The Flower Company, a Texas-based floral company, and Broker for EM America in state of Texas. Mr. Pape has developed Effective Microorganisms™ and EM-X® Ceramics programs for professional floral companies.

Mr. Pape will discuss basic applications and methods of application on the use of EM•1® and EM-X® Ceramics in extending the shelf life and marketability of cut flowers and potted plants in the floral industry as well as household plants.

Discussions will also include application rates for soil and foliar feeding as well as applications of EM•1® Bokashi in the Backyard Garden to Improve soil and plant quality with EM Technology™.
