What Makes Eco Friendly Outdoor Wear Products Green?

So some of us in the outdoor world contemplate what truly makes a product green. If the shoe laces are made from post consumer waste, does that make the shoes green? Or does the eco friendly product need to be made from post consumer waste and natural sources in its entirety in order for it to be branded green?

Boulder, CO (1888PressRelease) February 14, 2008 - We all stand on one common ground: that eco friendly outdoor wear has to perform and be durable. Consider, what good is an outdoor enthusiast dressed from head to toe in bamboo, organic cotton, hemp and recycled materials if it can't withstand the use and abuse that we subject it to?

We at Best Green Gear believe in products that are manufactured with all of the eco friendly materials that can lend to durability, comfort and performance gear and outdoor wear without compromising these purposes. After all, durable eco friendly outdoor wear and gear that can be reused over and over again promotes sustainability. And if eco friendly outdoor wear can be recycled at the end of its term, it makes it an investment for the planet.

Best Green Gear's objective is a three-fold approach: to focus on consuming more post-recycled products, reduce our usage of unnecessary waste and rather own sustainable products that can be reused over and over again.

Our mission is for Best Green Gear to offer you these resources:
• Reusable water bottles that will not contaminate your drinking water. And every time you reuse this bottle you prevent one more plastic bottle from reaching the landfill.
• Eco Friendly Products including outdoor wear and gear that are built to last and is made from post-consumer recycled materials and natural resources. And at the end of its long life, it can be recyclable.
• Up to date information and tools so that you can become aware and start taking action and join us in making a difference.
Best Green Gear offers ultimately “A Better Way of Life for a Better Planet”.

On the production side, currently there is no governing body that monitors, approves or disapproves self-acclaimed green products. Yet, there are numerous standards that companies have adopted that contribute to their products being eco friendly or green; the obvious being what a product is made from. Additional standards include: how the products are manufactured, what type of energy is used to power the manufacturing process, the day to day practices within a company and the energy expensed for the distance that the product travels to reach the consumer. Eco friendly companies featured in Best Green Gear vow to be striving to meet these standards to create products that lend to a more sustainable planet.
