We’re All Dreaming Of A Safe White Easter

(1888PressRelease) September 21, 2007 - Huge amounts of snow have been falling in the majority of ski resorts, with more fresh snow forecast over the next week. It promises to be a fantastic close to this ski season, after it started so disastrously over Christmas and the New Year, particularly in Europe where the picture was green rather than white.

Skiing and snowboarding conditions look set to be excellent for the Easter holidays, especially in higher resorts that have had snow on snow, rather than lower slopes that are now getting snow but following rain.

There are further implications too for later in the season. A sudden heavy snowfall arriving on top of an initial poor base is proven to increase the risk of avalanches. Last season in the Alps, when once again there was very poor early snow, accidents and rescue operations for those involved in avalanches were up by more than 10 per cent, and deaths following an avalanche up by nearly 9 per cent compared to the previous year (figures from French Ministry of Tourism).

"More than one and a quarter million holidaymakers are due to take to the slopes this year, with an estimated 20% of them going skiing or snowboarding without any insurance cover," warns Mark Shaw, Managing Partner of Direct Travel Insurance, before adding his advice to “make sure you buy winter sports travel insurance to protect you against such poor snow and the possible high risk consequences.”

Direct Travel Insurance provides competitively priced winter sports policies that all include many extra benefits relevant to difficult snow conditions.
