  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) March 23, 2011 - Waxing the City, a chain of salons devoted exclusively to the art of waxing, announced today that it was selected from more than 400 Colorado-based companies as one of the 15 finalists for this years "Colorado Companies to Watch" in 2011.

The Edward Lowe Foundation in conjunction with Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade champions the entrepreneurial spirit and presents this annual program to recognize the vital role second stage companies play in the economy.

Waxing the City has seen significant growth over the last two years in a variety of different areas including number of salon locations, business profits and market share in the waxing industry. What began as one small salon in lower downtown Denver in 2003, has now expanded to five salon locations across two states - Colorado and Texas - a training facility, branded wax products and the company's recent announcement of its intent to franchise.

"In the past two years, we have taken a niche service and turned it into a grooming and hygienic necessity. We've expanded our operations, our client base, and our team all during a rough economy," said Robin Schoh, CEO of Waxing the City. "We treat our employees well, our clients even better and believe that hard work, a passionate vision, and a superior product all contribute to a sustainable and successful business model."

This is the third annual "Colorado Companies to Watch" list and, in its two short years of existence, the list has become a prominent resource for the top growing companies in the area. More than 400 companies were nominated for the list this year. The top 15 finalists were announced on March 15 and the winners will be published in the June issue of ColoradoBiz magazine. This award focuses on companies that have an astounding impact on Colorado's economy through sustainable growth, entrepreneurial leadership, product innovation and community partnership.

"Our growth in the last few years has been astonishing," said Schoh. "New salon locations and evolution of ancillary product lines were built out of necessity to serve our clients. We believe in controlled, strategic growth that will allow us to build a solid infrastructure. Our focus will remain on high quality service, superior products, and employer of choice strategies."
