November 03, 2008 - In his new novel, "Prophet, Priest and King", Bible expert John Howard Reid presents a fully-rounded portrait of the legendary king of Ancient Israel, steering a middle course between the opposing points of view the Old Testament Book of Kings actually presents.
For the Bible's authors, Solomon was both wise and foolish, both loved and loathed, both God-fearing and Godless.
Scrupulously examining the Bible's accusations, Reid steers a middle course, concluding that, excepting the fact that the king ingeniously enriched himself by systematically selling his own people into slave labor, Solomon was a typical tyrant of his times.
Not all the novel's incidents are real, however. The book is a work of fiction. Some Biblical incidents have been expanded and other liberties have been taken in order to cast the novel into the classic mystery/suspense mold.
"Prophet, Priest and King: A Novel of King Solomon" by John Howard Reid, was published simultaneously in the United States, Canada and Great Britain on October 31, 2008.
