VRSim sees global adoption of the portable SimWelderTM

VRSim, Inc. highlights strong sales around the world for the portable version of its SimWelderTM turn-key Virtual Reality Welding Trainer. Since its availability in 2008, over 45 portable trainers have been sold to organizations in Australia, Europe, New Zealand, Mexico and the United States.

(1888PressRelease) June 13, 2009 - SimWelder is a cost effective, stand-alone training appliance that comes in portable or stationary versions. SimWelder augments traditional welding training by providing instructors with objective feedback, and allowing the trainee to do more repetitions without the added costs of materials, consumables and energy. Using SimWelder, students hold a physical welding torch and wear a real welding mask while working in an interactive, computer generated environment.

SimWelder provides a safe and healthy working environment for trainees and minimizes the impact of welding on natural resources through reduced material and energy consumption. By simulating welding, no gas is burned, no metal is consumed, no waste is created, and no harmful or toxic emissions are released.

The portable SimWelder is ideal for organizations with welding trainees in remote geographical locations. In addition, shipping the portable virtual reality welding trainer to different facilities may be more cost effective than the travel expense of bringing students together in a single location. For educational facilities seeing ever tightening budget constraints, the portable version can take welding training to the students, providing a positive alternative to course cancellation. With its specially designed travel case, the portable SimWelder can be rolled through a standard doorway, measures 26” x 24” x 50” and weighs approximately 275 pounds when fully loaded. The complete turn-key system with all of the hardware and software for SimWelder is included in the travel case.

SimWelder supports both GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) and SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) training modules. The GMAW module simulates welding on mild steel and aluminum tee welds in the flat (1F), horizontal (2F), vertical (3F) and overhead (4F) position. For SMAW, SimWelder records the trainee’s performance on mild steel tee welds in the flat (1F), horizontal (2F), vertical (3F) and overhead (4F) position and groove butt welds in the flat (1G), horizontal (2G) and vertical (3G) position.

Industries adopting SimWelder include military and defense, education, manufacturing, prison systems and organized labor. With SimWelder, welders learn better welding techniques, faster and with less waste. For more details, please see www.simwelder.com.
