September 13, 2008 - Vodafone has announced it will carry out major upgrade work to its mobile broadband coverage in Manchester, it has been reported.
As part of a multi-million pound investment, the service provider will improve wireless mobile broadband coverage as well as increase download speeds and change the way its customers are billed.
Manchester Evening News reports that the wireless broadband service will be available through USB modems, data cards or plug-and-play software.
Alec Howard, head of PC connectivity for Vodafone UK, told the newspaper: "Manchester, along with five other major conurbations, is now the fastest network in the UK."
He added that Vodafone has been "investing heavily" in the network so that people can get the same wireless experience when they are out and about as they do in the office, which is important for those people who "travel from all over Britain" to do business in the city.
The news comes on the back of recent research showing Vodafone to be the fastest mobile broadband service in the U.K, up to 4 times faster than the leading competitor.
A spokesman for Bury-based Genesis Communications commented on the news by saying. “This news is further evidence of the strength of Vodafone’s mobile broadband. We are proud to be one of the U.K’s largest suppliers of the service.”
