November 06, 2009 - HO CHI MINH - The non-profit Kearny Alliance has released Vietnam Sourcing Report: Garments to offer global buyers new souring opportunities from verified suppliers in Vietnam.
The report features profiles of 33 manufacturers with verified manufacturing and production capacity, plus descriptions, prices and packaging details for more than 100 popular export products. These include dresses, blouses, tops, dress shirts, jackets, coats, sweaters, polo shirts, jeans, sport suits and underwear.
“Vietnam is the fifth-largest exporter of garments and textiles in the world, with exports of $9.1 billion in 2008,” said Alexander Boome, program director of The Kearny Alliance, which produced the report in partnership with Global Sources. “The sector boasts a large pool of skilled workers and modern manufacturing facilities, offering buyers a complementary or alternative supplier base to their current source markets.”

In addition to industry overview and price trends, the report presents findings from an exclusive survey of featured Vietnam garments suppliers. High-level results show:
* 55 percent will target the U.S. market;
* 55 percent will focus on basic colors and simple styles to attract buyers;
* 48 percent expect to maintain export quotes;
* 65 percent plan to keep export prices hikes below 5 percent; and,
Total monthly capacity of featured suppliers is 18.55 million pieces.
One supplier in the report, Thai Thanh Son, Sales manager of Thai Son SP, said: “While the global economy is showing signs of recovery, we need more exposure to overseas buyers.
“Buyers whom we’ve reached via Global Sources Online and the souring report are interested in our designs and positive about our pricing. This is a great opportunity to get new customers and work hard to make them our long-term partners.”
More sourcing opportunities for global buyers, more jobs created
“The Sourcing Report is one primary component of the Kearny Alliances’ Developing Country Export Assistance Program,” Boome said. “The aim of the program is to assist small- to mid-sized export manufacturers in Vietnam, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Cambodia to tap new export markets. As a result, local suppliers can hire more workers and create sustainable jobs.
“Global Sources – as part of its corporate social responsibility – also provided each featured supplier with B2B websites on Global Sources Online. This connects them with Global Sources 854,000 active buyers worldwide.”
