  • (1888PressRelease) December 20, 2010 - HANOI - Vietnam's bamboo and rattanware suppliers plan to keep export quotes the same by focusing on "green" materials sourced from sustanable plantations.

    The Bamboo & Rattanware report features profiles of 38 export manufacturers with verified manufacturing and production capacity, plus descriptions, prices and packaging details for more than 104 popular export products including handicrafts, furniture, home furnishings, kitchen accessories and bags.

    The non-profit Kearny Alliance produced the report with the support of Global Sources.
    "Vietnam makers of bamboo and rattanware take a great advantage of cultivating the raw materials at their vast plantations," said Khiem Vu, program manager of the Kearny Alliance's Developing Country Export Assistance Program.

    "Makers tend to combine various 'green' materials such as woods, sea grass, water hyacinth and palm leaf to produce unique designs as a trend for next year.

    "They are optimistic about their next year's export sales growth. In fact, more than 80 percent of suppliers interviewed for this report expect export sales to increase by at least 10 percent over the next 12 months."

    One export manufacturer featured in the report, Tan Company's director, Nguyen Nha, said: "We are confident our current and potential buyers will be very interested in our unique modern designs with the creative combination of bamboo and rattan and water hyacinth and seagrass. We invite buyers to see our new designs on our Global Sources Online website."

    Survey shows makers to hold export prices; Suppliers target EU markets
    "Our survey shows more than 65 percent of the suppliers will hold quotes in the next six months, while the rest plan to keep price hikes to a maximum of five percent," Vu said. "Forty percent are releasing new designs with decorative patterns in the coming months."

    Other supplier survey results show:
    * More than 35 percent will focus on environment-friendly materials;
    * 85 percent expect export sales to increase next year;
    * 45 percent predict turnover to increase by at least 10 percent; and,
    * Half will target the EU market.

    Total capacity of featured suppliers is 1.53 million pieces per month, of which exports account for 85 percent. Makers employ more than 7,000 workers.
