Veterans Comfort Home to Receive $38,000 from Trusant Technologies Eagle Classic Golf Tournament

(1888PressRelease) October 29, 2008 - Columbia, MD. Joseph DiGangi, a service-disabled veteran business owner, asked his employees how they wanted to give back to the community. Instead of simply taking up a collection and donating the proceeds, they took a more difficult route: invest time (a lot of it) and money to put together a day-long event that ended up raising over $38,000 for the Fisher House, an organization that provides “comfort homes” for families visiting their loved ones who are receiving medical treatment after having been injured while serving their country.

Michelle Saunders, a veteran who spent 22 months recuperating at Walter Reed and who is now Director of Hire Heroes USA, played in the Trusant Technologies Eagle Classic Golf Tournament and said “…this is an incredible amount of money raised and it will definitely be put to use as we are still seeing a lot of our young men and women come home with significant injuries…”

Over 120 people participated as players, with others volunteering their time to run the event and solicit donations for the silent auction, all done during an economic crisis, and at the fiscal year end, the busiest time of the year for government contractors.

Would they do it again even though it meant extra long hours and multiplied deadlines? “Absolutely,” said Nancy Baldwin, Director of IT Services at Trusant Technologies. “While our everyday work supports the U.S. warfighter’s efforts all over the globe, we see how these funds will help veterans and their families right here at home as they go through a difficult and painful recuperation.”

The Trusant Technologies Eagle Classic Golf Tournament event included a four-person scramble format, scoring contests, a silent auction and raffle. Sponsors included KAWG&F and HDR Architecture, Inc, at the Platinum level, MSI Worldwide Mail, Parsons and Total Site Solutions at the Gold level and Calmark, Inc, Corporate Office Properties Trust, Project Time & Cost, Inc. and Nancy & Fred Reidel as Silver sponsors.

“We have already scheduled the 2nd Annual Trusant Technologies Eagle Classic Golf Tournament for Friday, September 18, 2009” said Vincent Marucci Jr., co-owner of Trusant Technologies and a service-disabled veteran himself. “We will continue to support the Fisher House and families of our injured veterans through this event and welcome donations, participation and sponsorships.”

About Fisher House
The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America’s military in their time of need and recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service.

Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates “comfort homes”, built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times – during hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

There is at least one Fisher House located at every major military medical center to assist families in need and ensure the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House program serves more than 10,000 families, and has made available nearly 2.5 million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990.
