May 13, 2008 - A new wheelchair accessible pool table was delivered recently by A.E. Schmidt Billiards to the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at the V.A. Medical Center at Jefferson Barracks.
Veterans in wheelchairs at the unit have given the new table great reviews. On May 9th, the vets had the opportunity to offer their thanks and comments directly to the designer of the table (and owner of A.E. Schmidt Billiards) Kurt Schmidt. Schmidt was on hand to dedicate the table to the memory of his longtime friend and former U.S. Marine Richard Palmer.
Kurt Schmidt said “we’ve wanted to do something for the V.A. for a long time and this new wheelchair-friendly table, I think, is a perfect way for our company to show our appreciation for these men and women who have given so much for our country.”
The table, called the Carsten Diner, was designed as a regulation pool table that converts into a dining room table. Because of its unique design, it is more user-friendly to persons in wheelchairs than conventional pool tables.
