August 21, 2007 - On Friday, August 17, 2007 Vermonter.com added a new service to their website to assist "for sale by owners". They offer more than simple classified ads by providing enhanced services such as 360 virtual tours, custom web pages and linking to high visibility real estate web resources.
Vermonter.com owner, Bill Alexander explains, "We never really considered adding a FSBO section to Vermonter.com until recently. In the fall of 2006 we wanted to sell our own house in Westford. The Realtor we listed with in October 2006 didn't have much luck. The market was very slow and Westford was a bit off the beaten path. We decided to cancel the listing and go for sale by owner by leveraging the daily traffic coming into Vermonter.com. The house was sold in December 2006, just a month after we went the FSBO route."
"Vermonter.com is an informational website with history, articles and just about everything else. It's been around for 11 years and gets thousands of visits per day. After the success of selling our own home with the website, the timing was right to help others. We found that even with no listings, we were still coming up on the first page of Yahoo and the second page of Google search results for the phrase "Vermont for sale by owner."
The new section was launched just a few days ago with it's first listing. "The next day, we got a call for two more listings. We are currently working with these people to get their photos and informational text together. If someone comes to us with photos and text ready, we can get their listing posted within 24 hours or often less."
So how does Vermonter.com compare with the competition for FSBO advertising? "We're not trying to compete." Alexander explains, "This is yet another tool for home owners to take advantage of. We offer some unique services that others do not. Some of our services actually encourage linking with other resources. That is the power of tapping into the web and getting maximum exposure, at minimal expense."
