February 01, 2008 - Georgia K. Hilgeman-Hammond, Vanished Children's Alliance Executive Director and Founder, along with Assistant Director, C. Bill Hammond, has retired after a long legacy of serving missing and abducted children in our community and throughout the nation.
Ms. Hilgeman-Hammond founded the Vanished Children's Alliance (VCA) in 1980, following the recovery of her daughter, Monica, after a four and a half year search. During her time as Executive Director, VCA assisted in the location, recovery, reunification, and reintegration of over 32,000 children. The current staff is eager to carry on VCA’s mission of protecting children from being abducted and bringing more missing children home.
Serving as VCA’s new Executive Director is Ms. Sheila Barry, who has more than 20 years experience championing children’s causes both as an educator and a senior executive of non-profit agencies. Melissa Scampini, who has been with VCA for over 7 years serving most recently as its Director of Casework, is now the current Chief of Operations.
VCA is currently searching for more and improved ways to serve missing and abducted children by collaborating with community organizations and foundations, as well as law enforcement agencies both locally and nationwide.
