February 14, 2008 - Taking love advice from your five year old nephew can be a dangerous thing as Tarsh Te Rure, the face of the soon to be launched Christian Matchmaker website, found out.
“He told me, “You’ve just got to get out there, Aunty”, and pointed to the door of the house.”
Two years later, Tarsh is ‘out there’ in cyberspace as the force behind www.christianmatchmaker.co.nz.
She says the website is a meeting place for Christians to meet and maybe find future marriage partners.
“I’m hopeful that the Christian Matchmaker site will help Christian singles connect with others who share their faith and have complimentary goals in life.”
The membership based site is offering free membership to new members who sign up before the official launch at Easter.
“I’m encouraging people to sign up, say hello and give it a go. If anything, I’ve learned life is about getting out there,” she says.
The site has a distinctive New Zealand flavour and is focused on providing new opportunities for people from our country but is also open to others from overseas.
It is perhaps the first of its kind to be based in New Zealand – as most Christian Matchmaking sites are based in the USA.
"Catholic Matchmaker NZ has had great success after less than 6 months, with one match already having announced their engagement. I think that shows there are enough people in this country to make a Christian New Zealand based service that is open to the World from here. It is time we had some home-grown opportunities for our people to meet – and show that Kiwis can make it work!”
The launch date is set for Easter Monday, and prelaunch starts Thursday 14 February 2008 (St Valentine’s Day). The site is dedicated to St Valentine, the saint of lovers, engaged couples and people wanting to be married.
Tarsh calls it The Meeting Place, Te Waahi Tutaki – a space for single Christians to gather, share, laugh, inspire, support, challenge and encourage one another on the road.
