Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton, PA (1888PressRelease)
June 15, 2008 - In the previous Youth Education in the Arts forums, posts regarding employment were so numerous that the US Scholastic Band Association (USSBA) recently launched BandJobs.org, a Web site dedicated to linking band job seekers with potential employers.
The need became apparent after employment chatter became dominant when the USSBA shifted their old online forums to usbands.ning.com. With more than 700 participating members in the band competition circuit, it became obvious that the USSBA was in the best position to enable an employment exchange.
“Not only were the forums active with marching band and music job seekers and employers, but I would also get emails from hopeful band directors asking us to post their job opening on our main Web site,” said Steve Frederick, USSBA executive consultant and retired band director. “Since we could not accommodate so many requests, we decided a dedicated site would be best for all.”
Another advantage of the new site is it's a bit less public. The application process is more private than a free-for-all forum, at the same time, giving employers the ability to peruse the applicants on their own time, instead of simply posting a phone number and having to deal with inopportune phone calls.
