August 08, 2007 - Microsoft Dynamics GP upgrade service in Chicagoland: downtown Chicago, Chicago Southwest suburbs: Naperville, Downers Grove, Aurora, Joliet, Plainfield, Lisle, Bolingbrook, Romeoville
Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 is still Microsoft Dexterity application and upgrade is performed by Dexterity Utilities, however it is more “automated” process as before and if you are Great Plains consultant you will find that you have lesser number of options to alter the way upgrade is performed. Plus, upgrade to GP 10 is “applied-service-pack” dependent. For example, with OEM CD GP 10.0 you can not upgrade GP 9.0 without service packs, you must be on SP 2 GP 9.0. Also if you are on GP 8.0, you must be on SP5. If you are on GP build higher than SP2 then you should wait GP 10 SP 1 be released later this year. Some technical highlights on GP upgrade:
1. Dexterity customizations upgrade. Please provide us with your customization dictionary – DYNAMICS.DIC or EXTRACT.DIC. Your initial Dex developer should give you one of this dictionaries – they contain Dex sanscript code of your custom or modified business logic
2. VBA/Modified upgrade. You should give us DYNAMICS.VBA, where VBA scripts are stored. If you utilized Continuum for VBA where your custom code switches GP modules – this customization might be hard to upgrade, please check with us on what you VBA modified logic does
3. ReportWiriter Reports upgrade. Great Plains published list of RW reports, which should be remodified and can not be upgraded. In some cases we can upgrade the reports from this list by modifying calculated fields in new report version, check with us
4. Additional upgrade topics: Business Portal, eConnect, Crystal Reports, SRS – these are outside of the scope, due to the PR format. Please check with us if you have additional upgrade topics to discuss
