April 19, 2009 - After graduation, BITSians don’t just go out to get jobs; they step out and become leaders. Many of Today’s leaders in various walks of life came from BITS Pilani yesterday and many of tomorrow’s leaders will continue to come from BITS Pilani today.
Birla Institute of Technology and Science popularly known as BITS is a Deemed University established under section 3 of the UGC Act. 1956 under notification no. F.12-23/63.U-2 dated 18th June, 1964.
BITS Pilani which has the reputation of pioneering the online examinations for admissions through the path breaking BITSAT and setting a bench mark in industry university collaborations is one among the top ranking universities towering above the rest in various best college surveys in India today.
BITS offers degrees in various disciplines presently at Pilani, Dubai, Goa and Hyderabad campuses apart from an array of work integrated learning programmes for HRD of a vast spectrum of Indian corporates. Recently the National Assessment and Accreditation Council NAAC reaccredited BITS with 3.71 CGPA out of 4 and awarded “A” grade “Very Good” status.
The alumni of BITS Pilani who peak with Passion Quotient for Alma mater and spread across the globe from Australia to America are the true ambassadors of Brand BITS Pilani.
BITS Alumni Association - BITSAA organizes the graduating students tea party event two times in a year due to many factors which include flexibilities unique to BITS Pilani such as second semester admission, dual degree, transfer etc apart from the fact of Practice School which ensures that one half of the final year students of the Institute are in Industry working on live projects. The second half of April and Second half of November are the usual times when this event is held.
For this semester, April 17, 2009 was the chosen date for the farewell party and the venue the lush green lawns of the VFAST Hostel. At 6.30 PM, VFAST was steaming with graduating boys mostly dressed in their formal attire and the girls in their best costumes. The boys and girls came in their best makeup as they know that there is no makeup granted for missing this one.
Graduating students Ashwin and Pallavi anchored the proceedings and nearly a dozen students including an off campus work integrated learning program student shared their transformational experience they had during their educational years with BITS.
A lot of things go into creating that experience at BITS which include the admission process, innovative teaching and evaluation methods, excellent student-faculty rapport, unique academic flexibilities, research opportunities, the access to one of the best libraries in the country, the white marble Saraswati temple which is owners pride and neighbors envy, one of the finest Science Museums, a vibrant environment for pursuing an array of extra curricular activities and many more
Highlighting the role of alumni in Institution building exercise, Professor R K Mittal President BITSAA and Deputy Director Administration welcomed the gathering and when he finished speaking one could see 1000 watt smiles all over.
When Vice Chancellor Prof LK Maheshwari in his address urged the graduating students to face the tough times ahead boldly as a result of global recession, one could hear that tough times do not last long but tough people last long from the heart of every BITSian with never say die attitude. Several senior officers of the Institute also addressed the gathering with their inspiring words and dreamy quotes.
Following the customary vote of thanks by Vice President BITSAA Prof BR Natarajan, the party time started with passions peaking, emotions erupting, cameras flashing all over like choreography of lightning in the sky, happy huggings, patching up misunderstandings, latching up new understandings and of course having a go at the specially designed menu with aroma all over for the occasion.
The graduating students slowly started stepping out from the farewell venue remembering that BITS Pilani’s broad based interdisciplinary education strong in fundamentals and rich in analytical tools coupled with the learning power unleashed by Practice School had empowered them to realize their self potential to be dreamers, performers and achievers.
Undoubtedly each one of them is bound to climb more and more peaks in the times to come and as Proud to be BITSians be flag bearers for Brand BITS Pilani.
