July 12, 2008 - Morristown, NJ — Morristown law firm, Green, Savits & Lenzo, has formally filed a complaint on behalf of their client, Dr. Charles H. Kellner, who makes claims about a number of serious and troubling accusations against the University of Medicine and Dentistry-New Jersey Medical School (UMDNJ-NJMS) and some of its most senior faculty members.
In the complaint, filed in the Essex County Superior Court, Dr. Kellner alleges that he was dismissed as Psychiatry Department Chair in April because he previously sought appropriate disciplinary action against a faculty member of the NJMS who failed to fulfill his duties as a physician. Furthermore, Kellner brought to light unlawful and excess spending of New Jersey taxpayers’ money.
As a result of exposing these infractions, Kellner was removed from his prominent position as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, received a drastic cut in salary despite no wrongdoing on his part, and, along with several of his supporters, was subject to a number of other retaliatory actions that affected his ability to perform his academic and clinical duties.
The New Jersey Medical School, a publicly funded medical school, is the oldest school of medicine in NJ and is located at 185 South Orange Avenue in Newark. Its parent institution, UMDNJ, is a state-run health sciences institution that is comprised of eight separate divisions, including NJMS.
