March 31, 2007 - According to a research conducted by a leading comparison site of the UK, women in the country have incurred huge debt by taking unsecured personal loans. They have spent more on shopping and fashion with this loan amount.
The female population of UK have sought unsecured loans for more than £20 billion, and overdraft debt of around £4.6 billion. As per the research, an average woman has a debt of £ 8,092.97.
A large number of the woman population (around 72 percent) have used credit cards, unsecured loans, store cards and overdrafts to finance their shopping. The research also reveals that three-fourth of the amount is spent on fashion shopping and grooming. Apart from this, the debts are not repaid by them quickly; rather, they take around 11 months to repay the whole debt.
The director of the consumer policy of this leading comparison site said: 'Fat used to be a feminist issue, but it looks like it's been overtaken by debt. In today's celebrity obsessed society, where women emulate the lifestyles and shopping habits of their favourite fashionistas, it's not surprising that women are becoming more interested in Size Zero than 0% APR.'
