August 13, 2007 - The UK's reputation of being number one in the world for partying and having a good time is now under threat following the discovery by US researchers that being a party animal is good for your heart. The research shows men with a good social network are less likely to be at risk of heart attack than those without. So the rest of the world is taking the research results seriously and partying hard thus putting the UK's reputation on the line.
But now every Brit has a chance to meet the challenge and prove the UK is still the top in the party stakes on the world's first 10-day cross-country pub crawl through Europe in September.
The world's biggest beer festival, Munich's Oktoberfest, is the first stop of the 'Euro Hard'n'Fast Tour' by Aussie tour operator Thirsty Swagman for three days of serious reputation enhancing drinking. Then it's off to the Austrian alpine village of Maria Alm for another reputation building experience of drinking beer, wine and spirits by the metre, 10 glasses at a time on a one metre long rack. A visit to Prague follows to sample some of the country's world renowned and incredibly cheap beers.
Finally, a pub crawl at the longest bar in the world in Dusseldorf, Germany, which boasts more than 300 pubs end to end and a chance to join more than 100,000 people celebrating Germany's National Re-Unification Day in what will certainly be a night to remember.
