April 24, 2008 - Oshawa, Ontario-- Oshawa Turul Soccer Club (“Turul”), the oldest and most respected elite soccer organization in Oshawa, today officially announced its expansion to twenty (20) competitive club teams in local, regional and provincial competition.
“This is a major milestone for a club that only three years ago was struggling for financing and fielded less than a dozen clubs”, said Turul president Roger Mittag. “We are reaching out to various community organizations to revitalize soccer programs and help foster interest in the beautiful game.”
Commencing June and running until August, Turul will welcome enthusiastic boys and girls ages 7-9 to its 1st Annual Oshawa Turul Soccer Academy. Accredited Turul coaches have designed clinics and special developmental sessions for players that wish to improve their ball mastery, coordination and conditioning. “We are encouraging young people to fall in love with a sport that is played the world over. Our academy will offer affordable training by seasoned coaches and a fun encouraging environment.”, said Mittag.
Turul is engaging a number of community organizations to help bring affordable soccer to local children, youth and adults. Recently, Turul announced a landmark affiliation agreement with Neighbourhood Association Sports Committee (“NASC”), a volunteer organization that operates local house league soccer programs in Oshawa. Oshawa Italian Recreation Club (“OIRC”) has been the official home of Turul for the last two seasons and continues to be a valued anchor sponsor. OIRC graciously provides meeting rooms, banquet facilities and substantial funding in partnering with Turul to promote the sport to the community.
Dnipro Ukranian Cultural Centre’s full size soccer pitch is now the official home of many of our youth teams. Aa of April 22, 2008, Turul is actively promoting teamwork and sportsmanship by challenging its teams and other volunteers to engage in a “clean-up” program to trim bushes, clear refuse and paint their new home field.
Oshawa Turul Soccer Club is enjoying a huge revival due to the growth of youth soccer, the popularity of professional teams such as Toronto FC, community alliances and interest from young people in joining a historic affordable elite soccer program.
