OptiGard™ is a highly secure hot foil hologram that combines overt security features with a covert, machine-readable feature for simple (genuine or counterfeit) authentication. Once fixed to a product the OptiGard™ hologram can be inspected visually and then interrogated using the new hand-held device if it is suspected of being a fake.
The new low cost reader is ergonomically designed with portability, convenience and ease-of-use in mind. Brand owners are able to quickly and efficiently swipe the reader over the OptiGard™ hologram to establish the authenticity of the item via a simple yes / no authentication on the reader.

Potential applications for the technology range from commodity items including cigarettes, alcohol, CDs, DVDs and software through to luxury goods including clothing and fashion items as well as high value documents.
