Truancy Call short-listed for best use of technology at the National Business Awards 2009

Birmingham-based telecommunications company Truancy Call Ltd has been short-listed for a National Business Award 2009 (Wales, Midlands and East Anglia region) in the ‘Orange Best Use of Technology in Business’ category.

(1888PressRelease) May 14, 2009 - Having been selected from almost 200 entries, Truancy Call Ltd has been recognised for its effective use of business technology to improve quality and customer convenience.

Led by Managing Director Stephen Clarke, Truancy Call is an automatic parent notification system which allows schools to instantly contact parents of absent pupils through email, text message and voice calling. Stephen was inspired to produce the technology in December 2000 after reading a news article about two primary school children that went missing after not arriving at school that morning. Since its inception, Truancy Call has grown and is now used in over 1000 schools in the UK, Australia and Republic of Ireland.

Truancy Call Ltd also provides a plethora of other solutions using SMS technology to address wider issues. These include Call Parents - enabling schools to keep parents informed of their child’s school activities such as school trips, detentions and parents’ evenings; Text Someone - encouraging pupils to report incidents of bullying, and Term Time Tracker - enabling Local Authorities (LAs) and schools to monitor term-time absences; E-mentoring – allowing secure and monitored communication between pupils and their mentors by text message, the secure website and forums.

Stephen Clarke, Managing Director of Truancy Call Ltd, enthused: “We are delighted to be recognised for our innovative use of technology. The implementation of our services and continuous success throughout the UK over the past nine years is helping schools to take a proactive approach in tackling issues such as truancy, bullying and parental communication.”

Finalists will now prepare to make their presentations in person before an independent, expert judging panel from 1 -12 June. Winners will be unveiled at a glittering gala award dinner in Birmingham at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel on 16 July.
