October 30, 2006 - TripTie was established on the belief that the best travel agents are people with similar interests who already know about the place you want to go to. Founder and President Andrew M. Lin realized a gap in the market when he was planning a trip to Japan last November. He states, “I had no idea of where to go and there was simply too much information out there. The solution was easy: I called up my cousin and she sent me her itinerary for her recent visit. I knew she shared similar travel interests so it was a great starting point.” TripTie provides that starting point for all travelers.
TripTie is notably innovative in the way it was built to take advantage of the knowledge of the community: if a member notices that a location is out-of-date in a fellow traveler's plan, they can update the information, with that update being propagated to all of the members in the community. Furthermore, the application allows members to view their itinerary on a calendar, estimate how much their trip will cost, print their plan, share their travel photos, write a travel blog, and maintain a checklist of things to bring. TripTie is a free service to all.
