October 02, 2008 - With interim approval given by Federal Highway Administration in 2004, the ClearviewHwy font will be replacing existing FHWA fonts in the coming years, for some DOTs the switch has already been made. Transoft Solutions, developers of innovative, industry leading efficient sign design software for the engineering and architectural communities, is now offering resales of the ClearviewHwy font by Terminal Design to complement the latest version of the, GuidSIGN.

A product of ten years of multipart research by the Pennsylvania and Texas Traffic Institutes, the primary goal of the ClearviewHwy Type System, initially, was greater legibility and reduced halation to accommodate aging drivers. Research conducted was based on the requirements of FHWA’s Standard Alphabets Series D and Series E-modified. Testing and design created a font visually different from the FHWA Highway Gothic Series, with lower case letters being taller and internally more open to increase legibility and enhance contrast. The end result of the research by the design team is clearer and more legible font for all guide signs including streets, roadways, byways, and highways.
When ClearviewHwy fonts are paired with the new GuidSIGN Version 5.0’s QuicDesign template system users, can quickly create signs that conform to FHWA / DOT standards in minutes. As well, users of all versions of the CAD-based what you draw is what you get (WYDIWYG) software, GuidSIGN, can utilize Terminal Design’s font system to add an extra dimension to signage designs developed for improved driving safety.
