October 09, 2007 - In an effort to empower young women to cultivate a unique identity along the principles of yoga, Tranquil Space Foundation (TSF), in Washington, D.C., will host a fundraising gala on Thursday, October 11, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to benefit its TranquilTeens program that provides workshops for girls in grades 9-12 through partnerships with schools and community organizations.
“The mission of Tranquil Space Foundation is to expand opportunities for girls and women to develop their inner voice through yoga, creativity, and leadership activities,” said Jackie Leventhal, steering committee member for TSF. “With the proper resources raised at our 1st Annual Gala, we can bring the TranquilTeens program to a vast number of girls, launching a ripple effect of the benefits the program imparts and raising awareness about the necessity of female empowerment from a young age.”
The fundraiser will be held at WVSA ARTs Connection, 1100 16th St. NW, and a wine reception, silent auction and raffle will be offered. TSF will auction off yoga class passes, sailing lessons, handmade jewelry, and other yogic and creative products from both area businesses and national retailers. Tickets are $30 and available at tranquilspacefoundation.org.
Tranquil Space Foundation grew from the philanthropic efforts of Tranquil Space Yoga, a D.C. yoga community voted one of the top 25 yoga studios in the world by Travel + Leisure in 2007. D.C. entrepreneur Kimberly Wilson grew the organization from a small, home-based business to the socially responsible enterprise it is today. The studio’s Karma Yoga program offers special classes and events designed to raise money for charitable organizations, including Tranquil Space Foundation.
