Wichita, KS (1888PressRelease)
April 10, 2007 - The car was auctioned Friday night January 19th, 2007 and went for a total of $154,000. This car is "Pit Viper" #001 of a scheduled 25 cars to be produced. At this point TPI is accepting orders for more cars however there is a line.
The "Pit Viper" was sold in prime time on air by the SPEED channel which got a estimated 10.1 million viewers for it's coverage of Barrett-Jackson, bringing it from the #39 cable TV network to the #16 cable TV network for the week of the airing. In total 40 hours of coverage were aired.
Brook Phillips talks about why he thinks $150,000 was a low number.
Why did you sell your "Pit Viper"?
"Basically, I thought that there would be a market out there for them (customized mustangs), but thinking that there is a market and actually being a market sometime are two different things, So I thought I would sell mine...It kind of established that benchmark...apparently they are worth more than I'm charging them to build."
"My car brought $150,000 and it could have brought more. - I had two guys that come up and said they both would have bid up to $200,000 for my car...because, it was there, they liked it and they wouldn't have to wait 18 months (compared to the competition), because it was...ready."
Don Goldman, new owner of the "Pit Viper" #001:
"I went to Scottsdale, the Barrett-Jackson Auction with seven cars in mind to bid on, three of them were custom built Mustangs. Once I had an opportunity to see the Pit Viper in person I knew it was the only Mustang that I would be bidding on. I was blown away with the appearance and quality of the car and the attention to detail that went in to the build. Now that I have had an opportunity to drive it, the experience again exceeded my expectations. Brook Phillips and the entire team at (TPI) Total Performance should be very proud of the car they built and I am proud to have added it to my car collection."
