Town Hall Meeting: Being A Responsible Marketer Presented By The New England Direct Marketing Association

The New England Direct Marketing Association (NEDMA) is sponsoring an open discussion about being a Responsible Marketer. With consumers’ desire for choice over the types and volume of mail they receive, marketers need to come together to debate this crucial issue.

Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) March 27, 2008 - What: In light of escalating calls by consumers and politicians alike for an end to direct mail as we know it, The New England Direct Marketing Association (NEDMA) is sponsoring an open discussion about being a Responsible Marketer. Updates will include the state of the nation with current states that have Do Not Mail legislation bills in motion and Tax on Postage. The group also plans discussions on programs such as The Commitment to Consumer Choices (CCC), the foundation of the DMA's long-time public assurance that all members will follow specific practices to protect consumer privacy.

Some of the topics to be covered during the discussion include:

• What is the role of suppliers in this process?
• Can I do business with non-DMA members that are not bound to follow these rules?
• What are the rules for co-marketing ventures where both companies have access to customer data?
• Do resident/occupant/saturation mailers have to follow the Commitment to Consumer Choice?
• What happens if a DMA member does not follow the Commitment to Consumer Choice?
• Must I follow the Commitment to Consumer Choice when communicating to consumers in other countries?
Why:
With consumers’ desire for choice over the types and volume of mail they receive, 15 states are contemplating some form of Do Not Mail legislation. Marketers need to come together to strategize for survival.
