Total Sports Asia Lands Worldwide Distribution for World Games 2009

Kaohsiung World Games selects experienced partner for international media distribution.

(1888PressRelease) May 26, 2009 - The Kaohsiung Organizing Committee (KOC) has appointed Total Sports Asia (TSA) as its exclusive agent to handle international distribution of media rights (excluding Taiwan) of the quadrennial World Games 2009, to be held in the southwestern Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung in July.

The 8th edition of the World Games will take place from 16th to 26th of July 2009 and will be staged over a period of 11 days and is the biggest international multi-sports games after the Olympic Games.

This is the first time that Taiwan will be hosting an event of such international stature and the city will welcome approximately 5,000 athletes and officials from almost 100 countries around the world who will participate in more than 31 sports events.

Over 56 hours of programming will be produced LIVE, including the Opening/Closing Ceremonies (in High Definition), Billiards, Dance Sports, Gymnastics, Speed Roller Sports and selected matches of Rugby 7’s and Korfball.

The KOC’s faith in TSA is in the invaluable experience that the Asian sports marketing specialist had gained in marketing World Games 2005 held in Duisburg, Germany. The distribution expertise will be called upon to promote the broadcast of Kaohsiung’s edition of the games around the world.

Senior Vice President of Media at Total Sports Asia, Julian Jackson, said: “After distributing the World Games 2005, which went to a record number of countries, we believe that we can surpass that and make this the most watched World Games yet.”

Ms Ming-chun Hsu, the Marketing & PR Department executive officer of KOC, says: “TSA's experience of promoting international games is a valuable gift for Kaohsiung. Hsu also emphasized on the uniqueness of The World Games 2009. Sports like Rugby 7s, Dance Sport, Water Ski and Air Sports are popular in many countries, and these sports will only take place in the World Games but not the Olympics.”

Ms Hsu added: “We welcome international broadcasters as well as every sport lovers to come to Kaohsiung to attend the World Games 2009 to experience intense games and the amazing opening/closing ceremonies, where Taiwanese local culture will play a huge role.”

About The Kaohsiung Organizing Committee
Established in 2005, the Kaohsiung Organizing Committee is a temporary, non-governmental organization committed to making the World Games 2009 Kaohsiung a successful and quality sporting event. The KOC is under the supervision of the International World Games Association, who will lend technical and managerial experience and set the standards, regulations, and criteria.

The IWGA and the KOC both share the same core value; sports not featured in the Olympic Games deserve just as much acclaim and attention, and athletes should all have an opportunity to compete in an international world class event. The World Games serves as the flagship event allowing thousands of top tier athletes from different sports and different countries to come together in the spirit of sportsmanship and friendship. Also, the world class sporting competition allows the best of the best to be recognized for their achievements. For more information, visit www.WorldGames2009.tw.
