Top Chef Meals Chosen to Cook for Thousands
Selected as a provider of emergency meals for the American Red Cross Metro NY Region.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) February 12, 2011 - Top Chef Meals, a Westchester County and Manhattan-based creator of high-quality, nutritious, home-delivered gourmet meals, recently entered into a two year contract with the American Red Cross Metro NY Region to serve as a major provider of emergency meals during a large-scale disaster. The region includes six American Red Cross chapters: Greater New York, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Shelter Island, and Greenwich, Connecticut.
Should a weather-related crisis or other large-scale incident hit the Metro NY region, residents who are displaced from their homes can turn to American Red Cross for housing, food, and other basic provisions. Top Chef Meals was selected as an American Red Cross meal provider for its ability to prepare and deliver meals to locations within the Metro NY Region. "Our planning efforts include identifying and contracting with catering operations that have the capacity to prepare large quantities of food in support of large-scale emergencies," said Sharon Hawa, Director of Mass Care and Sheltering for the American Red Cross in Greater New York. As the region's lead Chapter, the Greater New York American Red Cross jurisdiction includes the five boroughs of New York City as well as Orange, Putnam, Sullivan, and Rockland Counties. "Top Chef Meals founder Paul Ghiron has experience in the disaster response field and understands the immediate and ever-changing needs of a disaster scenario," said Hawa.
With the recent expansion of its production, storage and freezer space, Top Chef Meals can prepare 8,000 meals per day. The company will be able to respond to emergency needs quickly and seamlessly, without interrupting its day-to-day operations. "Top Chef Meals can prepare and deliver thousands of meals almost immediately if a large-scale crisis were to affect our region," said Paul Ghiron, who is also president of Top Chef Meals' parent company, corporate caterer Crystal Spoon Corp. "We will support the American Red Cross Metro NY region should our services be required to assist those in need."
