Top Business Leaders Join Board Of Directors For Communities In Schools Of North Carolina

Statewide non-profit adds three North Carolina business leaders to board of directors


Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) August 15, 2007 - Communities In Schools of North Carolina (CISNC) has announced the addition of three new business leaders to its Board of Directors. The Board of Directors for Communities In Schools of North Carolina provides direction in planning and policy decisions, oversees financial development and monitors implementation of goals and objectives of the non-profit to help ensure best practices and results. Board members also serve as advocates and spokespersons for CISNC to the community at large.

The three new members of the CISNC Board of Directors include:

• David H. Weaver, Triangle Regional President, BB&T, the nation’s 12th largest financial holding company. Mr. Weaver is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has been with BB&T since 1995. He currently serves on the Board of Advisors and Leadership Committee for the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and is a board member for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle.

• LaVoy Spooner, Regional Director for External Affairs, AT&T, the world's networking company™, provides voice and data solutions for US businesses and consumers worldwide. Mr. Spooner currently serves as the 2007 second vice chair of the Better Business Bureau for Asheville/Western North Carolina and is a member of the Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development as well as the Asheville Rotary Club. He also serves on the WCQS Public Radio board of directors, the Education Coalition board of directors, United Way of Asheville/Buncombe County board of directors, Progress Energy Community Energy Advisory Committee, Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors, and the Burke County Chamber board of directors.

• Acton Archie, Business Analyst, SAS Institute, the leader in business intelligence and predictive analytics software. Mr. Archie is from Charlotte, NC and is a graduate of North Carolina State University. In addition to serving on the CISNC board of directors, Mr. Archie has recently been appointed to the North Carolina State Board of Education Blue Ribbon Committee for Charter Schools.
