October 09, 2008 - Top Appeal founders Monica Parchment and Krystal Wardell announced the establishment of a community partnership with the Luke C. Moore Academy of Washington, D.C. which will result in the creation of a marketing internship program within this school. Beginning in early 2009, Top Appeal, a District of Columbia-based fashion accessory company for young girls and tweens, will formally include select students from the Luke C. Moore Academy as members of its Top Appeal Product Development Team.
Top Appeal’s headband design collection allows girls to create their own look, and experiment with colors and designs, by virtue of uniquely designed appliqués that can be removed and interchanged between different headband colors offered by the Company. Nevertheless, as Krystal Wardell points out, “our products are geared toward youth, so their input as to what is fashionable and ‘cool’ is key to the success of our future product development efforts. “ To this end, Top Appeal will select interns from the Luke C. Moore Academy to, amongst other things, perform consumer research through market studies and focus group activities, and make recommendations for upcoming Top Appeal accessory designs.
“Our company is committed to establishing community partnerships that can offer a long-term benefit to our City’s youth” says Monica Parchment who also happens to be the appointed Chairperson of the District of Columbia Juvenile Justice Advisory Group. “We feel tremendously lucky that the students at Luke C. Moore are also excited by our designs and are interested in helping us grow the company and gain professional experience at the same time.” As the company grows, its goal is to expand the number of interns selected each year at Luke C. Moore for Top Appeal internship opportunities, as well as expand the program to other area high schools serving at-risk youth.
Moreover, Krystal Wardell adds that “we also hope that the success of our internship program at Luke C. Moore will encourage other small business owners to do the same thing. This type of entrepreneurial experience is invaluable for a young person and might not otherwise be available to them in their high school years.”
