  • Fort Worth-Arlington, TX (1888PressRelease) July 02, 2014 - It's the bee's knees! Prism Theatrics brings its inaugural show the Tony Award winning musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie" to Fort Worth and Will Rogers Auditorium, with custom sets created by Mecca Design and Production, a scenic element and services design/build group in Dallas, Texas. The backdrops and sets were created to bring the roaring 1920s New York to life on stage. Mecca fashioned more than 20 set pieces from dynamic, large scrolled "walls" made with a CNC router for precision to multiple scenery walls to aged hotel trim work and bar scene. The monumental, 45 ft. by 25 ft. hand-painted, custom backdrop evokes nighttime city life in New York in the early 1920s. The sets, backgrounds and scenery were built to enhance this story of a small town girl coming to New York with big dreams. "Thoroughly Modern Millie" opens July 3, 2014 at Will Rogers Auditorium, Fort Worth.

Prism Theatrics shares their excitement about the new set, "Set load-in is hopping! This set is absolutely stunning! Fort Worth hasn't seen a set like this in AGES!"

And on Good Morning Texas, Executive Producer Blake Floyd shared, "This is unlike any production of Millie that's ever been done; It's just high energy and true to the era."

According to Mecca Design and Production's Kenneth Mecca, "We were able to use all of the talents Mecca is known for in the industry. We hand painted the 45' x 25' custom, skyline drop with window cuts outs for added depth; we hand sculpted and CNC routed all of the foam details on the proscenium (fabricated to match the architecture of the Will Rogers Auditorium); we also used the CNC to cut all of the details in the main wall, the office exterior and interior wall scenes, and all of the hotel trim work. Our guys had the CNC running 24 hours a day for two weeks straight to get Millie ready for Fort Worth. And in the end we built all the rolling wagon platforms, flying scenery, and all the moving walls on rails in the more traditional theatrical manner. Prism gave us a great design to work from, but also allowed us to use our own creativity to solve those "how do we get it to do what they want" questions. It was a great experience and the audience is gonna love it."
