March 05, 2009 - Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra, LLP (MBAF), announced that the Orange Bowl Committee (OBC) has tapped MBAF CEO and Managing Partner Tony Argiz as Chair-Elect of the Orange Bowl Committee for 2009-2010 and will serve as the 72nd President & Chair of the Orange Bowl Committee during the 2010-11 year. The Orange Bowl Committee announced that Ms. Phillis Oeters’ was installed as the 71st President & Chair of the Orange Bowl Committee for 2009-2010 year.
The Orange Bowl Committee was created in 1935. Its original mission was to generate tourism for Miami through an annual football game and supporting Festival. Since that time, the not-for-profit 333-member, primarily-volunteer organization has expanded its reach beyond the city to become a foundation for the entire South Florida community.
"The Orange Bowl Committee brings revenue and business opportunities to South Florida through the promotion of its annual events, which is especially important during these tough economic times," said Argiz. "I look forward to my new role as Chair-Elect of the Orange Bowl Committee, and will work closely with President Phillis Oeters and my colleagues on the OBC to keep the organization strong and vibrant, and to help boost our local economy in the months and years ahead."
A longtime business and community leader, Argiz is also active in other civic and charitable organizations, including the United Way of Miami-Dade. A board member of the United Way since 2005, Argiz is currently Chairman of the Board of the United Way for the 2007-2009 term.
