January 04, 2007 - Las Vegas, NV January 4, 2007– SMIDGITS, (with an “ i ”) are becoming one of fastest-growing viral-video and podcast series on the web, and have passed one million downloads since the brand originally launched in April of 2006. With the help of Veoh’s new exhibition venue, the creators of the series are hoping to reach more viewer-ship, and establish the brand on a larger scale. In addition, the Smidgits Team plans on releasing some content exclusively on Veoh, including high-end episodic network-type programming.
Frustrated with Hollywood and distribution companies, Kelly Schwarze, President of VDE turned to podcasting and the Internet to distribute his company’s work. SMIDGITS were originally created as a small comedy driven podcast series in the same vein as Saturday Night Live, and Mad TV. However, because of the brand’s growing appeal, Schwarze and his team plan on diversifying their content in 2007, to perform more like a television network.
