  • (1888PressRelease) October 14, 2013 - The Turnaround Management Association (TMA) celebrates its 25th anniversary by honoring its 31 founding members at the Opening Reception of the TMA Conference in Washington, D.C.

"We're excited to celebrate our 25th anniversary by recognizing the pioneers that started the organization," says Ronald R. Sussman, TMA chairman and partner in Cooley LLP's Corporate Restructuring group. "We are forever grateful for the time and financial resources they dedicated to beginning what has become the largest global association of turnaround, restructuring, and distressed investing professionals."

TMA's origins began in 1987 when a group of the founding members gathered in Chapel Hill, N.C., to discuss how they could facilitate networking, exchange ideas and best practices, and promote what was a relatively new industry at the time. In the last quarter century the organization has grown from 31 to more than 9,300 members in 48 chapters worldwide. And now more than 450 TMA events are held annually on six continents.

John Collard, Chairman of Strategic Management Partners, Inc., said "I am honored to part of such a fine organization. From the start it was important to promote the profession and increase awareness of the benefits that our constituents can provide. Turnarounds are like beginning over again - they must build teams, differentiate and sell products and services, secure capitalization, and grow. It is a disgrace for CEOs and boards of directors who allow their company to become distressed and watch value deteriorate." Collard continued. "Turnaround Management specialists can be an option to stabilize the situation and rebuild value. Turnaround management strategies and capital raising will certainly play a key role in any recovery."
