December 11, 2008 - The Pat Moore Foundation in Costa Mesa, California recently released their recommended tips to reduce drug and alcohol cravings during the holidays; a time when recovering addicts slip back into using.
With a small bit of preplanning anyone can make the holiday enjoyable and safe for everyone. It is important to have a backup plan in case the addict begins having cravings. Heading to a party with friends who don’t drink, bringing their own vehicle, staying only a limited amount of time and parking where no one can block their car are good ways to keep from feeling trapped. While at the party, be creative by mixing fruit juices with sparking water or cider. Remember that alcohol is a sugar and the body craves it, so one should substitute with sweets. If weight gain is a concern, the alternative, drugs or alcohol, will surely create a whole other set of circumstances.
“One of the biggest concerns is stress during the holidays,” says Pat Allen, Chief Executive Officer at the Pat Moore Foundation. “There’s so much to do that it gets hectic. It’s important to get rest. Sleep is only part of it. Quiet time is severely underrated. A lot of people get exercise; walking, yoga, or running, but the most important stress reliever is to limit social and family obligations.”
During this holiday season, the Pat Moore Foundation is offering a Detox for the Holidays special rate of $400 a day. They can be reached at (888) 426-6086 or visit them online at www.patmoorefoundation.com.
