September 26, 2008 - The Manchester-based end of life computer specialists won the ‘Best WEEE Partnership’ honour at the prestigious Valpak Awards which recognise excellence and innovation in the area of recycling, waste minimisation and environmental awareness at all levels across the UK. Valpak are the HM Government-appointed organisation that runs the national network of designated collection facilities for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).
Tier 1 Marketing Manager Jon Selby attended the gala awards ceremony held in the National Maritime Museum in London last week to receive the award from BBC Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine.
Selby was delighted to receive the award and said, “This achievement recognises the importance of the re-use of corporate IT equipment once it has reached the end of its working life.”
“Judges were most impressed by our work that utilises our security processes to allow business and government to re-use their data-bearing end of life IT equipment, despite recent high profile stories of data losses in the private and public sectors.”
“Tier 1’s expertise allows data to be securely erased from hard drives as opposed to destroying them and thereby rendering a perfectly re-usable, working asset to the recycling bin.”
Vine also praised Tier 1 for their innovative ways of recycling equipment that cannot be re-used, and for ensuring that potentially harmful landfill is not an option for any of the equipment Tier 1 handle.
