New York, NY (1888PressRelease)
January 23, 2008 - It’s only January 2008 and New Orleans Makeup Artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis’ schedule looks like a Hollywood A-list makeup artist. She ended the year working with ESPN the Magazine with Earl “The Pearl” Monroe and New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul for a photo shoot. The last time her appointment book looked this way was August 2005 the month Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. She had just finished working with Essence Magazine when they were in town for The Essence Music Festival. She was hired to be the makeup artist for the Editorial Director Susan Taylor and Dr. Cornel West. When the issue came out she was in the middle of trying to reclaim her life and never saw the issue until one of her clients gave it to her who saved it because she knew the her favorite makeup artist was a part of Mrs. Taylor looking fabulous.
Gomez-Duplessis said her clientele before Hurricane Katrina was 6oo plus and not half of her girls or BGD Barbarellas, as she likes to call them, returned. My book was crazy, I had many major assignments lined up and my makeup line was doing very. But you know what I am so over Hurricane Katrina, I can’t let her win, yeah she turned my life upside down but I tell you what “I’m a survivor”. I don’t have time to wait for anybody to help. The world is so tired of us (New Orleans). I hear it all the time, sometimes from people I work with. When I finally got out of the depression I to fell into, I said lord give me strength to get up, give me strength again in my hands. In December 2005, he sent me a group of blessings like radio host Michael Baisden and Youth Matters, and a few other private people. I got my kit together and I started calling my resources to let them know where I was and that I was ready to work and never looked back.
Gomez-Duplessis just returned back from an all paid 1 week assignment with Planet Beach in Mexico. She was hired by them to do both hair and makeup for the 2008 International Planet Beach Pageant winner as well as their new ad campaigns and marketing tools. As soon as she arrived back into New Orleans on Saturday, she headed to Florida on Sunday to work an assignment. Tuesday she was hired by Former Pro Bowl New Orleans Saint, now photographer Brad Edelman to do makeup for one of the 2008 Mardi Gras retail posters. Her Wednesday assignment called for her to do makeup on singer, songwriter, fiddler and actress, Amanda Shaw for the cover of Offbeat Magazine, a local publication. Thursday & Friday assignments she worked with her Barbarellas and Saturday’s schedule she shoots a commercial in Baton Rouge with Hess Marketing and Dr. Nathan, and then she heads back to New Orleans to get ready to do makeup for The Dukes organization for their Mardi Gras ball. Sunday morning her phone rings from a Boston photographer who wants to book her for a Tuesday shoot with Portland Trailblazer and number 1 draft pick Greg Oden. Like she said “There’s no stopping me and Katrina didn’t win”. I am already pretty booked up to March and have already booked weddings in 2009.
Now I’m just waiting to hear about working Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2008 Collections both in New York and Los Angeles. I feel like Little Richard, I’m the hardest working makeup artist in the beauty industry, she laughs.
