  • (1888PressRelease) June 30, 2011 - The Worldwide Fistula Fund (WFF), a non-profit organization dedicated to the eradication of obstetric fistula, has launched a newly enhanced website to raise awareness about the devastating effects of the condition and the steps the organization is taking to address it. In addition to information about the organization, its new fistula hospital (the Danja Fistula Center) in Niger, and the women it serves, the site also features a giving catalog, which segments donor gifts by function and price.

"We developed our site not only to educate the general public about obstetric fistula, but also to provide plenty of opportunities for social sharing and relationship-building among visitors," said Mark Shaker, executive director of the Worldwide Fistula Fund. "Our goal is to empower our online guests to not offer financial help but to actually feel a connection with each other and with the women whose lives they are saving."

Website features include FAQs about obstetric fistula, details about the Danja Fistula Center, links to WFF pages on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Youtube, and a special "Stories of Hope" section that shares the individual histories of women helped by the WFF. Under the "Help Now" button, visitors are invited to purchase "gifts" via the giving catalog, create their own online fundraising events, or e-mail elected officials about the importance of maternal health.

"Although we take donations in any amount, our giving catalog offers visitors the opportunity to specify exactly how their money makes its impact. From mosquito nets to medical supplies to full fistula surgeries, there is a chance to truly help women in need at every price point," said Shaker. "Even sending an e-mail about obstetric fistula to an elected representative can be of enormous benefits; there are simply no limitations."

The site is available at WorldwideFistulaFund.org.
